The Job Safety Planning framework (JSP) evaluates six key risk factors and assigns each a risk rating value (out of 10).
- Working in remote areas
- Working alone or in isolation
- Working with stakeholders or the public that may have a heightened risk of confrontation
- Task risks (as captured within the SWP’s and SOI’s)
- Extended driving e.g. more than 2 hours
- Movement between working locations.
The activity’s Risk Rating is then calculated to be Low, Medium or High.
The total score (along with experience, weather conditions, location, communications coverage etc.) should then be considered as part of the planning process and discussions between worker and responsible person. This will inform:
- which check-in device to use (e.g. JourneyMate, radio, Garmin in-Reach Mini, phone) and
- communications processes (e.g. check-in frequency) and
- escalation process (e.g. if I’ve missed a check-in by {20} minutes, send an alert via {SMS} to my responsible person).
Refer to the check-in devices page for more information about selecting the most appropriate tool.
